12/11/2022 0 Comments Chac mool cenote diving![]() Diving at this site is most suited for CMAS / AOW divers. On the side entrances there are Little Brother cenote and Kukulkan cenote. There are 3 different water entrances to Chac-Mool system. Most of the dive is dark so light is required. Coming through the main entrance it is possible to go directly to the Dome Room. This cenote is essentially a technical dive. The maximum depth of 47 feet-14 meters - takes you through salt water. Most of the dive is dark so light is required. The ceiling of this “air dome” is an open book on the past few hundreds of thousands of years with the beautiful fossils you will find, as well as some little “baby stalactites” and giant tree roots cracking the thin upper limestone to get some water. In the same room, you will also surface into a big air pocket with air access. Then, in the other section you will see a “dome room” made of thin stalactites which are on one side a huge collapse, and this section gives us a view of approximately 30 feet / 10 meters of a decorated low (bottom) wall section. The cavern is very amazing for the variety of scenes that will present themselves during the dive, like the two enormous caverns where you enjoy sun light and beautiful jungle view from underwater. It is famous for its two main chambers, one being significant and open, perfect for beginner divers, and the other for those looking to do some exploring underwater since the depths are filled with stalagmites. The same site offers two Cenotes: “Kukulkan” see (cavern-kukulkan) and Chac Mool.Ĭhac Mool has two entrances, the main one, which is a big opening in the downstream section of the site, and also a small entrance called “little brother” which is actually a side entrance. Chac Mool is located in the cenote route, and it’s named after the Mayan words for jaguar claw. The maximum depth you’ll need to dive is 25ft and you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of freshwater and saltwater wildlife, fish, and even Panchito the friendly crocodile. This cenote is long and winding, but it’s very easy to navigate with a guide. ![]() There are several mindboggling Cenotes that are really great for snorkeling, too! Chac Mool is also one of the caverns which features a halocline, where salt and fresh water come together and creating stunning visual effects. In here you can relax peacefully in the silence surrounded by stunning stalactites, accompanied by the roots of the trees and observed only by small bats that have managed to enter through a small hole in the ceiling. This cenote is essentially a technical dive. We access the water through two openings. Walk down a stone staircase through the jungle into its turquoise blue waters. This was my first Cavern dive and it was very cool. They are famous for their crystal clear waters, natural formations, and also for the religious and symbolic meaning they had for the pre-Columbian Mayans.
